This event was held over two Saturday mornings last year at Thompsons Bay Pool. Photographers of all ages and with varying expertise took part. Some used cellphones and others, much larger cameras and very expensive equipment. All showed the same enthusiasm to capture the perfect shot.
The aim of the competition was to show the beauty of the Dolphin Coast and to create an awareness of the necessity to conserve this amazing asset.
Thanks to Ken Mann of Ace Photography and Alett Kimber a keen photographer and conservancy member, for their assistance with the judging. I also asked professional photographer Rory Armstrong to help with the technical photo winner. Dolphin Coast Conservancy Chairman Di Jones chose the conservancy message winners.
The rules were simple, the photo’s had to be taken on the days of the competition and only minimal editing was allowed on the photos submitted.
The winers in the various categories were:
Best Photo: Bebhinn Spoors
Most technical-best use of equipment and knowledge of photography: Stephen Gore
Best Conservation message: Johan Maynhardt Best Conservation message runner up Jasper van Vessem Most Creative: Jasper van Vessem
Best Marine: Robbie Sturgeon
Best Coastal: Glynnis Salvado Most enthusiastic photographer: Lihle Mncube
Thanks to all walkers and photographers. Sorry you can’t all win a prize. Your enthusiasm and good eye made judging very difficult. Thanks too for sponsors Lifestyle SuperSpar, The Fabric Lounge, Club Venture, Sage, 3@1 Business, Wakkaberry and Jags Bootcamp for the prizes. And thanks to conservation members and eKZN Wildlife officers and Honorary officers and Jane Bertram who accompanied us on the walk.
