I've always had problems making cave spider grinders. They always stick to the ceiling. I recommend the zombie spawner personally because they are 1x1x2, making them able to be trapped in a hole easily. Just make a 3 deep hole for them to fall into that is atleast 9 blocks away from the spawner. I prefer 15-16 blocks away.

It's easier to make spiders move towards you than against you.. Keep that in mind. If you think it'd be more convenient to stand lower than the spawner so climbing isn't an issue, do so. Use a crusher, not fall damage. Fall damage is nigh impossible with spiders, far less convenient than just setting up a stopper + crusher system.
