General chemically removing mica

In my area (OK) gentle sandblasting is commonly used for cleaning trilobites. Really soft stuff like talc or gypsum can be used. For mica, one would need something a little harder; feldspar may be the best choice. The big downside to this method is the large cost to get set up with the air compressor, etc.

2.6 Mineral Properties

Density is a measure of the mass of a mineral per unit volume, and it is a useful diagnostic tool in some cases. Most common minerals, such as quartz, feldspar, calcite, amphibole, and mica, have what we call "average density" (2.6 to 3.0 g/cm 3 ), and it would be difficult to tell them apart on the basis of their density.

Are feldspar-to-mica reactions necessarily reaction-softening processes

Continued deformation was accompanied by muscovitisation of the albite feldspar, and resulted in the formation of mica-rich fault rocks which experienced progressive silica removal by the fluid with increasing deformation. At this stage, reaction-enhanced ductility dominated.

3.1 Silicate Mineral Groups

The vast majority of the minerals that make up the rocks of Earth's crust are silicate minerals. These include minerals such as quartz, feldspar, mica, amphibole, pyroxene, olivine, and a variety of clay minerals. The building block of all of these minerals is the silica tetrahedron, a combination of four oxygen atoms and one silicon atom that form a four …

Mica | Structure, Properties, Occurrence, & Facts | Britannica

Mica, any of a group of hydrous potassium, aluminum silicate minerals. It is a type of phyllosilicate, exhibiting a two-dimensional sheet or layer structure. Among the principal rock-forming minerals, micas are found in all three major rock varieties—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.

It is, however, difficult to determine accurate elemental concentrations for minerals such as feldspars, where solid solutions exist. To overcome this, we establish a QEM-EDS calibration using EDS spectra from six feldspar reference standards to define five solid solution regions along the alkali and plagioclase feldspar series.
